Things you need to know

Whether you want to be the next John Rowbotham or if you want to officiate in public park football, then the SFA Referees (Fife) offers a fantastic opportunity for YOU to become a fully qualified football referee.

Scotland now has its first female FIFA assistant referee officiating in matches in Europe as well as in the Scottish Football League. The opportunities in refereeing exist for both men and women aged 16 and over

There has never been a better time to become a referee. The Youth Development Initiative provides opportunities for newly qualified referees to officiate at matches involving the talent that will hopefully one day be playing professional football.

In addition to matches involving the youth teams of Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline Athletic, East Fife and Raith Rovers, you could have the chance to referee the youth development initiative teams of Celtic and Rangers and all of the other SPL clubs.

Whether you want to referee in the World Cup Finals, Scottish Premier League, Scottish Football League, Juniors, Amateur or Youth Leagues, the opportunity is there for you.

Why not test your current knowledge of the Laws of the Game by clicking on our Q & A’s on the Laws of the Game.

Training classes are run throughout the year and generally last for 10 weeks. The referees courses are open to anyone over the age of 16.

If you are interested and want further details then please look at the Letter to Prospective Trainees and download and complete the Application Form. To help with the costs, Fife Council operate a Community Grant scheme where financial assistance is available to help pay for referee's courses. Have a look at the Community Grant form.

If you have any additional questions please contact the Association Secretary Kevin Martin on info@fifereferees.co.uk
